Vomit!
Sorry, bloggers!! I must have this title!! VOMIT! WARNING: If you're the person with an uneasy stomach, this is not for you.. : )
Of course, I don't mean that we (Christians) shouldn't cease to expose ourselves with non-Christians (unbelievers, uncommitted). Jesus went to the place of sinners because that's the place where they need Jesus the most. However, we shouldn't accept everything our worldly friends do or we'll be influenced by their worldly behavior!
I found this chart and thought, "Oh man!! How true that some of us "former faithful" fall into the trap of the world!"
"Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?" 2 Corinthians 6:14 (niv)
"..and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." James 1:27 (niv)
Here's one last strong Scripture that you may not have read before. This is a big OUCH! It's a warning for those who is remaining faithful to God but a rebuke to those who have become unfaithful, even on the brink of unfaithfulness:
"It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them." 2 Peter 2:21 (niv)
In other words, they know better.. But they chose. They have decided. They changed their minds.
"If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning." 2 Peter 2:20 (niv)
It is like saying, "Sorry, God.. There's a competition here.. The world made a better offer. The world is better than you! Yes, I left it for Christ but realized Christ isn't giving me anything more than the world so I have decided to turn my back on you and return back to the world. Hope you'll understand. Well, I am sure you will. Just, you know, get over with it. I still love you but..."
Now, you get the picture... Here's a gross one:
"Of them the proverbs are true: "A dog returns to its vomit," and, "A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud." 2 Peter 2:22 (niv)
If you're leaving God for the world (selfishness, pride, lust, arrogance, denial, hypocrisy, anger, blame, luxury, pleasure, and endless more...), then you're licking your own vomit! That's how God looks at you this way. By the time Christ comes and you're unrepentant, the vomit is still visible around your mouth!! Talk about a big embarrassment, you'll even wish you hadn't made such a foolish decision.
Think about this, even when you vomit in the toilet.. Let that be a reminder!!

Mark, I do remember you talking about the VOMIT in one of our bible classes. :) It is true that if we drift away or do wordly things, we are licking our own vomit. I'd rather stick with the straight and narrow.
I'm glad I had my dinner HOURS ago before I read this blog. :) Mark, I think you watch your sick daughters too much. :)

"VOMIT IMMORALITY!"
Flee immorality. Every {other} sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18
wow, i never really thought about the 'dog goes back to his own vomit' thing that way. i mean, i knew that it applies to us, but i just didn't think about how it illustrates the grossness of sin. thanks for the insight, mark! :-)
