Which Zone Are You In?

We have the most unselfish person in the world! His name is Jesus! He's the One we're called to pattern our lives and ministries after. This Sunday, I hope we can motivate each other to follow in Jesus' footsteps -- to get out of our Comfort Zones and move down the field of life with an End Zone mindset -- consumed with reaching the goal-line of being conformed into the image of God's Son - having the ambition of being just like Jesus.

Are You Ready For Some Word?

Come this Sunday, LIVE via UStream @ www.ustream.tv/channel/overland-park-deaf-ministry. Deaf Bible Study @ 9:45a (cdt)..

The "F" Word

On October 18, 2009, we talked about the word, "FORGIVENESS" which is yet another HOT TOPIC or another HOT BUTTON that I may have pressed! Difficult, yet Doable! We can do a whole world of good with forgiveness.

Do you experience peace with hatred toward another? You can experience peace by practicing forgiveness.

Baptism of Shawn Harvey

Never mind the people who persuade you to wrestle with them in discussing theological questions concerning whether baptism is a salvation issue or not! But I have news for you!

The Bible has plenty to say about baptism and there's a bunch of references that baptism is definitely a salvation issue!

When we baptize a soul, to us, it's a BIG THING! We're ALWAYS thrilled when each person (it can always be you if you haven't done so) decides to make a commitment to follow Christ, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins and live in Christ daily!!

Anyone else ready???! We're always ready to lead you to God!

German-styled Fellowship Luncheon

Last Sunday, we had a good crowd worshiping God! Following worship, we adjourned into the fellowship hall for a feast of Germany. Almost everyone brought in their German grubs. It was deliciously different! Loved having a variety of foods brought into the fellowship. In case you missed the fellowship luncheon this past Sunday, don't worry. We're going to do this again!

Now, I'm thinking what will be our next international food to try???? Any thoughts!?

Shame

Put your attention to the apple in this video. Think of the apple as the object of your shame. You may be feeling shameful after hurting your best friend 5 years ago during high school. Or perhaps you've had an affair and ashamed to tell your spouse. Often, shame turns us to God and seek His mending and healing power.

Colorful!

"Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us." 1 Peter 2:12 (niv)

End of Trouble

"I can see the light
that is coming
for the heart
that holds on,..

And there will be an end
to these troubles,
but until that day comes

still I will praise You,
still I will praise You!.."

This is one of my favorite Zoe song, "You Never Let Go". As I was driving on the way to my daughter's school to check the team list if she made the volleyball team, I saw something that must, forever, be painted in my digital camera! Thank You, God, for your art!

When the sky opened up, rays shone through the dark clouds. It was thundering and lightning! We, the family, ate at Wendy's that eve. A strong storm passed through and literally knocked out the power! Most of the girls at Wendy's screamed from the top of their lungs! Mothers rushed to the dark bathrooms to check on their children.

And we scream, crying out to God, each time our lives have been shaken by the thunder and lightning of life's problems! As we endure each of our storms of life, there will always be a time when God's grace shines on us all! There will always be a light shining on the confusions we wrestle with. There will always be an "end" to each of our troubles. But, until that day comes, until that end happens, we should always continue to praise God!

And, oh, by the way, my daughter, Amanda, made the 8th grade volleyball team!

God bless you!

Highest Office

A very special thanks to Kasey Vessel for bringing up this subject. Her father was nominated to become an elder in their local church.

Guess what is the highest office in our land?

It is not the President of the United States.
It is not being recognized the richest man in the world (Forbes).

Read on:

"James A. Garfield was the twentieth president of the United States, serving less than four months before he was assassinated. He was a member of the church and served as an elder. When Garfield relinquished his role as elder, it is said that he stated,

I resign the highest office in the land to become president of the United States.

Serving as an elder in Christ’s church is the highest position a man can attain on this earth."

Awesome, huh? And, Amen!

Are you ashamed of the gospel?
Are you ashamed to share Jesus?
Are you ashamed to be different from the world?
Are you ashamed because you're a Christian?

Examine

"Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true." Acts 17:11 (niv)

"A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup." 1 Corinthians 11:28 (niv)

"Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you - unless, of course, you fail the test?" 2 Corinthians 13:5 (niv)

Legalism

Done

You want no God, you get no God.

There are two kinds of people:

those who say to God,
"Thy will be done",
and those whom God says,
"Thy will be done".

Clever, huh?

Bread

Each time I eat a sandwich with bread, I remember Jesus. I remember Jesus' prayer, "..give us this day, our daily bread.." I seek Him to bless this day, or give me my needs, or give me the necessities of life, give me this, give me that... And before I know it, I have a huge "to-do-list" for God with just the simple words of, give me my daily bread.

I've been stuck on the life, death and resurrection of Christ lately. God has really been revealing Himself to me in many ways on this subject matter.

God revealed Himself to me through my dad last week at the hospital.
God revealed Himself to me through my mom while we wrestle with what we can do to help dad.
God revealed Himself to me through my aunt and uncle as we work to provide for my parents.
God revealed Himself to me through each and all of our pain and suffering.

We may just say these simple words, "give us this day, our daily bread," I think there's something more to this. I think Christ was saying I AM THE bread of life and when we pray, pray that we will eat of My bread, daily. In other words, we ask, "Give us this day, Jesus.." Give me You, Jesus, the bread of life that was broken for all of humanity. Make our brokenness, complete! Fill me with the life of Christ.. Fill me with Your Spirit.. So that I will never go hungry.

Pray with me: "Father in heaven, holy and righteous is Your Name. For Your Kingdom has come and let Your will be done in my life and on earth just as it is in Heaven. Today, live inside of me and give me new life, breathe in me fresh Holy Spirit. Give me the life that is only found in You, Your daily bread. Forgive me of my wrong doings as I forgive those who have done me wrong. Save me from the trials of this life and deliver me from the evil one. May the Kingdom, the power, the glory be Yours, forever! So be it!"

Amen!

HIStory

What a story!

I love them with the love of Jesus Christ! I first met Carl and Nina Moore at one of the Northern Virginia Association for the Deaf (NVAD) meeting. They were sitting right behind me throughout the meeting.

After the meeting was over, I got up, turned around and introduced myself to both of them. We chatted for a while until they asked what I do (job-wise). I told them I am ministering for God to the deaf. This, indeed, enlightened their eyes.

They started attending the Fairfax Church of Christ Deaf Ministry (FXCC) (FYI, the ministry is still going strong, thanks to all those who have been there for almost 9 years and counting!!), then eventually became a committed follower of Jesus Christ at FXCC. We've grown to love each other so much! They are fun to be with!

Something had happened to Carl not too long after their commitment to the Lord's church (situation undisclosed). I remembered him coming up to me thinking what it would take for him to take up the challenge to become a minister of the gospel. He said if anything happens to me, I'm gone to do the Lord's will.

Then he forgot.

When his situation came up, he broke down! He wasn't sure what he would do. Immediately, I reminded him what he had told me a couple years before. He quickly looked at me and said, "This is probably it! This is an open door!"

Now, Carl and Nina serves the Lord at Park Plaza Church of Christ in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They're doing great work! Praise God for guiding the Moores!

Indianapolis

Indianapolis! Thank you for the great workshop!

The theme of the workshop was, "What Does It Mean to Wear His Name (Jesus)?" The mission is the make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Are you wearing Jesus and following Him? Now, the decision is up to you!

"If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously." Romans 12:8

Deaf Men's Retreat anyone??

This video is HILARIOUS!! I loved the "ripped abs" line, especially from the elders.. ;)

Celebration

"Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses." 1 Timothy 6:12 (niv)

Forgiven

Yesterday, Easter Sunday (April 12), Angela buried her old life in the Lord in baptism and put on Jesus! It was a great day celebrating and bringing in another new soul to God and Christ! May the Holy Spirit that is in her be her guide for the rest of her life. We ask that you lift your prayers up to the Lord for her and the rest of the souls who have come to obey and follow Christ.

"In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with the circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. When you were dead in your sins and in the
uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,...
