Whoo! What an experience. It's both hectic & hair-pulling to pleasureable & a blessing! Again, what an awesome experience for us all, including our kids. The girls couldn't believe their eyes looking up at all the tall buildings! We got a chance to see only a few great places in NYC, only the lower Manhattan and Midtown. The subway! Man! It was hot down there! And it was also a maze!! You could get lost down there and no wonder where lost people go, down & under where it's H-O-T! We arrived home last night at 10:45 p.m. after a nice 6 hour drive from Central Islip, Long Island. Not a bad timing especially from the middle part of Long Island. We took a drive to the Bronx and the northern part of Manhattan crossing the George Washington Bridge then through Newark and on I-78 into PA! Better than an toll-expensive I-95!! We had to shell out $30 through five (plus) toll booths compared to a measly $9.75 using the route I explained above via 78!! I learned it does cost more to get into NY and a little less out of the state. But staying on 95 will still cost us a couple more $! Rather spend the rest on a chocolate shakes we got in Allentown!!
Anyways, the church of Christ at Long Island was so warm and loving!! We're just overwhelmed by their loving welcome. The hearing congregation were lovable people, always hugging and "kissing" the brotherly and sisterly kiss (on the cheek, of course)!!! The worship was Spirit-filled! The message about the Parable of the Unmerciful Servant was strong and powerful!
Angela, Alyson, Pedro, A.J., Claribel, Enoch, Amanda and Michelle wait for the sub taking us to the lower Manhattan.
A windy boat ride to the Statue of Liberty!
Here's an awesome picture I took of one small part of the World Trade Center. I believe this was the South Tower but I may be wrong. What was left was the beam made into a cross. We were astonished to see it!! A wonderful reminder that the Lord is always near, even in times of peril.
The Lowenstein family on 42nd Street. NY mayor, Guilianni, cleaned this street up. The last time I visited 42nd Street (Hey! Remember, I wasn't a Christian at that time.) was in 1988 where it was infested with dirty business like strip bars. I think you get my point here! I don't want to be too graphic about this but I am so thankful for the mayor for his job well done!
Alas!! I love this picture!! It was taken after the Long Island Church of Christ service!! From left to right, Olivia, Pedro holding his son, Enoch, Clary hold her son, A.J., Alyson, Michelle, Angela, Mark and Amanda pose in front of the church building. We met alot of wonderful Christians there namely, Joe, Mike, Cinthia, Eli and many others..
Before I close, may I ask that you please, please lift up the New York state (especially Long Island and Queens) to God in prayer!! I asked if there are any deaf ministers currently working serving the deaf in this part of the U.S. and Olivia said that there aren't any except for a couple of church that offers interpreters. There are hundreds to thousands of deaf people living in this part of the country and surely it is RIPE for harvest! Pray for the Gelabert family as they're working extremely hard to build a deaf work there. Again, please lift them up to God in prayer!
